Why Gun Safes Require Trained Movers

Gun safes are among the most challenging items to move in any home. Even a mid-size rifle safe weighs 500–800 pounds, with dense steel construction that creates an extremely high, narrow center of gravity. The slightest tip without proper control can result in the safe toppling — causing serious injury, floor damage, or wall destruction.

Larger vault-style safes — common in Colorado gun storage and with high-value collections — can weigh 1,200 to 1,500 pounds. These require specialized heavy-duty dollies rated for the load, proper rigging straps, and a crew that understands weight distribution and controlled movement across all floor types.

Stair moves with heavy safes introduce additional complexity. A loaded stair-walking dolly must be handled by trained operators who understand how to control descent and prevent runaway momentum. Our crews train specifically on stair-safe moves and won't attempt a stair descent without the right equipment in place.

Safe Types We Move

  • Handgun & Pistol Safes — 200–400 lbs, often installed in closets or under desks
  • Long Gun & Rifle Safes — 300–700 lbs, typically upright with shelving
  • Large Gun Safes — 600–1,000 lbs, full-height vault with multiple locking bolts
  • Vault-Style Safes — 1,000–1,500+ lbs, commercial-grade construction
  • Fireproof Document Safes — Heavy fire-rated safes for homes and offices
  • Jewelry & Cash Safes — Floor safes, wall safes, and heavy freestanding units

⚠️ Important: Please empty your safe before our crew arrives. We do not move safes with firearms or ammunition inside for safety and insurance reasons.

Our Safe Moving Process

1

Pre-Move Assessment

We need to know your safe's weight and dimensions, current location, destination, stair count, floor type, and any tight hallways or door clearances. An accurate assessment prevents surprises.

2

Floor & Stair Protection

Heavy moving blankets, plywood runners on hardwood, and door jamb protection installed before the safe ever moves. A 700-lb safe on an unprotected hardwood floor will leave gouges — we prevent that.

3

Heavy-Duty Dolly Setup

We use dollies specifically rated for safe weights. The safe is tilted, the dolly positioned underneath, and the load secured with heavy-duty straps before any movement.

4

Controlled Movement

Slow, deliberate movement with full crew communication. Corners are navigated with deliberate coordination. No rushing, no improvising.

5

Stair Descent or Ascent

Stair moves use a powered stair-walking dolly or a controlled team carry with spotters. Every step is called and coordinated.

6

Final Placement

Your safe is placed exactly where you want it — including on carpeted closet floors, concrete garage slabs, or basement rooms. We help you think through placement for optimal security and access.
