Moving Antiques Is Different from Moving Furniture

A contemporary sectional sofa can take a bump without consequence. Your great-grandmother's Victorian settee cannot. Antique furniture is typically constructed with hide glue joints, thin veneers, and handmade hardware — all of which were designed for a gentler era, not a moving truck.

Veneer is particularly vulnerable. The thin wood layers bonded to the substrate can lift, crack, or chip if the piece is bumped against a wall, dragged across a floor, or improperly wrapped with materials that catch and pull. Carved details on drawer pulls, pediments, and decorative moldings are equally fragile — they have survived decades in your family's care and can be undone in a single moment of careless moving.

Our crew approaches antiques with a different mindset than standard furniture. We move more slowly, use softer padding materials, apply furniture blankets before anything else touches the piece, and take the time to assess each item individually rather than treating everything the same. We also understand when removable elements — mirrors, marble tops, shelving units — should be taken apart and transported separately for their protection.

How We Move Your Antiques

1

Pre-Move Assessment

We discuss each antique piece — its age, condition, fragility, and any known vulnerabilities. This conversation shapes every decision that follows.

2

Soft-First Wrapping

Moving blankets go on the piece before anything hard touches it. Corners, protruding carvings, and glass surfaces get additional foam corner protection.

3

Careful Disassembly

Marble tops, mirrors, removable shelving, and detachable elements are wrapped and transported separately to eliminate stress on joints and veneer.

4

China & Breakables Packed in Cells

Fine china, crystal, and porcelain are wrapped individually in acid-free tissue and placed in divided boxes — never stacked without proper separation.

5

Controlled Loading & Placement in Truck

Antique pieces are loaded last (out first) and placed in positions where they won't shift. Soft items like blankets buffer any potential contact points.

6

White-Glove Delivery & Unwrapping

At the destination, we carefully unwrap and inspect each piece with you present. We place items exactly where you want them and don't rush the process.
